Definition
Lifetime Value (LTV or CLV) is the total revenue — or, more rigorously, gross profit — a customer generates across their entire relationship with your business. It's typically weighed against CAC to judge whether acquisition is sustainable.
Why it matters
LTV sets the ceiling on what you can afford to spend to win a customer. Growing LTV through retention and expansion often beats chasing ever-cheaper acquisition.
